| Tartalmi kivonat: | In the 18th century, the Reformed church had a serious problem in the Kingdom of Hungary; namely, it did not have adequate information about its members. The church administration only knew about the situation of the parishes, but they had no idea about the Calvinists living in Catholic settlements. This study will reveal the reasons for the lack of information. One reason was the disorganisation of the Reformed church, which did not conduct surveys of Calvinists living in Catholic parishes. Another reason was the underdeveloped statistics in Hungary in the 18th century, for even the country descriptions published in print did not offer any information about Calvinists living in diaspora. In the study, however, it will be proven that the state and the Catholic Church had accurate information. The Catholic bishop of Csanád knew exactly how many Calvinists lived in even the smallest village. Joseph II also made surveys that gave him detailed information about the location of the Calvinist population. |
