| Tartalmi kivonat: | Through my research, I wanted to draw the attention of the professional and interested lay readership to the fact that the historical and ideological studies of the Romans are of justified interest in contemporary academic discourse. In the course of my research, I did not intend to pursue a Hungarian discourse on the political culture of the Romans, but to illustrate the perceptions of villa culture placed in the ancient frame of reference of the city-region. In the resulting thesis, therefore, I attempted to map an ancient „thought-world.” In the course of my analysis, I examined source works from representatives of the political and cultural elite of the time, and thus an elitist conception of the city-region or villa emerged in the pages of the thesis. Although I have presented the relationship between the Romans and the conceptual formations of the countryside, the city and the villa, I have not, however, attempted to provide a comprehensive overview of the conceptions of the „city” and the „countryside” in Italy between the 2nd century BC and 2nd century AD. The villa is considered as a complex term both in the ancient Latin language and in modern scientific research. Among the several attempts at definition, for the purposes of this research I adopted a morphological approach. One of the essential points of the morphological explanation is the typical architectural and decorative features of Roman villas. The second essential point of the description of the Roman villa from a morphological point of view is that the villa can be considered a manifesto of the land-based wealth, social and cultural ideology of the Roman elite expressed in building materials and architectural elements. The third essential point of the explanation is that the buildings, called otium-villas by modern research. A kutatásom révén fel kívántam hívni a szakmai és érdeklődő laikus olvasóközönség figyelmét, hogy a rómaiak felfogásával kapcsolatos eszmetörténeti vizsgálatok joggal tartanak érdeklődésre számot a jelenkori tudományos diskurzusokban. A kutatás során nem a rómaiak politikai kultúrájával kapcsolatos magyarországi diskurzust kívántam folytatni, hanem a város–vidék antik viszonyítási rendszerébe helyezett villa-kultúrával kapcsolatos felfogásokat szemléltettem. A létrejött dolgozatban ezért egy antik „gondolatvilág” feltérképezésére tettem kísérletet. Az elemzésem során a korabeli politikai és kulturális elit képviselőitől származó forrásmunkákat vizsgáltam, emiatt egy elitista szemszögből megörökített város–vidék, illetve villa koncepció bontakozott ki a dolgozat oldalain. Habár a rómaiak kapcsolatát mutattam be a vidék, a város és villa gondolati alakzataival, mindazonáltal nem vállalkoztam arra, hogy teljességre törekvő áttekintést nyújtsak a „várossal” illetőleg a „vidékkel” kapcsolatos felfogásokról a Kr. e. 2. és a Kr. u. 2. századok között Itáliában. A kutatás során kijelölt időintervallum egyrészt megengedte, hogy szemléltethetőek legyenek a fentebb felvázolt viszonyulás sajátosságai, másrészt olyan, forrásokként hasznosított írásműveket elemezzek, amelyek a hajdani Róma politikai-kulturális elitjének gondolatvilágát tükrözik. Mindezek mellett szintén kijelenthető, hogy a római villa pedig mind építészeti, mind pedig kulturális felületként egyaránt magában foglalta az urbánus és rusztikus ideákat, amelyek kölcsönhatásban álltak a korabeli politikai és kulturális elitrétegekkel. |
