Tartalmi kivonat:This thesis deals with the using of stories, tales and legends of the Anglo-Saxon period in EFL classrooms in primary education. The first chapter contains the description of the young learners’ characteristics, it summarises the main reasons for using storybooks; looks for the links between language learning and the school curriculum; gives some ideas about how to run a class library and how to motivate students to read. It contains some important thoughts about the selecting of storybooks. The second chapter deals with activities in connection with the Anglo-Saxon legends, especially with the Arthurian times. It gives examples according to the four skills. The thesis demonstrates how important it is to teach not only the pure language but also the historical and cultural background of the target language in order to teach many-sided people who are aware of the others.
