| Tartalmi kivonat: | In my thesis I write about the White House. I choose this topic because I found very interesting that how one building can serve three very different functions. In the first chapter I write about the history of the building itself, about the builders and the life of its inhabitants, about the life of the President of the United States. Each President made some changes on the building and this step by step transition of the Presidential Mansion helped the building to become the one that it is today. The second chapter is about important historical events that took place in the house. Signing treaties, making decisions that will determine life of thousands of people is part of the work that is done in the house. In this chapter I would like to show how the building functiones as an office. I choose the most important events to prove the power and the dominance of this office. In the last chapter I write about the White House as a museum. I look for the origins of this function and I examine the smooth transition during the years to become a museum of American history. |
