Tartalmi kivonat:In this thesis I examine the role of corn in the life of Native Americans. The tribes that cultivated this plant made up legends about its sacred origin, and held different ceremonies to please "Mother Corn". The importance of corn could be seen also in everyday life of Native Americans because they used every part of it. The first acquaintance of Columbus with corn and the relevant role of corn in the life of the Pilgrims show the great importance of this plant for those who cultivated it.
