Tartalmi kivonat:The aim of this work is to investigate and depict the situation of the Hungarian ethnic Diaspora in the society of the United States. The main focus is on their level of assimilation and consequently on their chances of preserving their ethnic language and culture. I would like to find out whether the tendency to assimilate or the attachment to the ethnic heritage is more dominant in the life of these people. After shortly describing the historical background and the different tidal waves of Hungarian immigration to the USA, I am going to write a few words about different ideas concerning assimilation and ethnicity in America followed by a detailed analysis of Hungarian-Americans' attitude to their ethnic culture andtheir level of assimilation through information provided by the results of a questionnaire. This questionnaire has been devised in order to find the answers to the above mentioned questions and was distributed among Hungarian-Americans via the Internet.
