| Tartalmi kivonat: | St. Louis was chosen to be the host city of the Louisiana Purchase exposition. In this thesis, I will prove that although Chicago was at least as suitable as St. Louis to be the host city of the 1904 World's Fair, St. Louis was selected to honor its major role in the Westward Expedition by Lewis and Clark after the Louisiana Territory Purchase. Using the historical antecedents, I will examine the suitability of both cities. To prove my statement, I will investigate the steps taken by the Missouri Historical Society in order to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase and the Westward Expedition. As a final step in the process of proving my predicate, I will demonstrate that the choice of the host city was made on the grounds of its role in the Westward Expansion besides its development and location. |
