| Tartalmi kivonat: | This thesis examines the assimilation process among Hungarian immigrants into American culture, in the 1930's. I will look into the question of why many of the immigrants gave up their cultural roots gladly, in order to become a 'real' American, while others fought desperately to keep their native traditions, and whether it is possible to keep national identity in a different culture. I would like to provide several answers for why a first generation immigrant involuntarily and gradually loses his cultural roots and what factors aid this phenomenon. |
