| Tartalmi kivonat: | In this paper I will analyse the conceptual background and the formulation of masculinity. To achieve this I will reach out to Raewyn Connell and Michael Kimmel as the core of the analysis among other sources. I will endeavour to demonstrate the dynamics of the relationships between hierarchical systems within masculinity and to provide a definition to hegemonic masculinity. The formulation of masculinities is best examined relative to historical processes. The dynamics and nature of historical transformations is closely interrelated, almost definitive to the changes in the nature of masculinity. According to all this I will begin my examination with the transformations that took place in Europe in the 15th century. I will venture on to the era of the creation of empires from where I will shift to discussing processes which occurred in America. I will take a look at the evolution of masculinity ideals there in a chronological fashion, up to the era of industrialisation. Changes that took place then completely transformed the ways of life, along with the conditions of family life and of course the relationship between men and women. Century old dominant types of masculinity have failed to prevail and its effects are palpable in our present. Psychological burdens and social tensions in our days can be traced back to those transformations. I will then turn to the guidance of Angry White Men by Kimmel, to examine the outcome of the 2016 US Presidential elections. The presidency of Donald J. Trump which has taken a lot of people by surprise in the US and the rest of the world. The paper aims to the deduce that even though a Trump presidency may have been unexpected to many people, the changes in the ideals of masculinity, and the historical, social processes that have shaped our world, have created a substantial mass of people who see their survival or even the reassertion of power with such a leader imaginable. |
