Tartalmi kivonat: | This thesis examines the differences between men's and women's linguistic politeness strategies e.g. hedges, tag questions, questions, compliments. I introduce the theoretical background of politeness, claiming that women are linguistically more polite than men and I demonstrate the theory that can be the reason for this difference. Presenting my own research made with the help of Hungarian university and college students of English, focusing on some of the politeness strategies, I conclude that women use more of these strategies than men, therefore they are more polite in their speech. |
