| Tartalmi kivonat: | The primary aim of this study is to present the military organization of the Kingdom of Hungary during the Middle Ages, reflecting on the main findings of János B. Szabó’s study summarizing his research spanning several decades. The first half of the study introduces the various groups of medieval Hungarian society with different legal and service statuses, briefly discussing their military service obligations, while the second half presents the organization of the various branches of the military such as cavalry and infantry. The study mainly uses archival sources, with a focus on the material from the decades following the Battle of Mohács, which has mostly been underutilized until now. Furthermore, the previously unknown military organization of the bourgeoisie is discussed, as well as new details about the structure of the cavalry, the Hussars, and artillery. |
