| Tartalmi kivonat: | The introduction of ChatGPT by OpenAI in November 2022 has notably influenced both the academic sphere and everyday life, presenting significant implications for education. This study explores the effects of ChatGPT on the efficiency, effectiveness, and critical thinking abilities of university students. Focusing on a sample of 304 students from various academic fields in Hungary, the research employs an experimental design where participants are divided into a control group, using traditional browsing methods for openbook tests, and an experimental group, utilizing ChatGPT. The study examines differences in performance during complex professional tests, aiming to provide insights into the potential of AI in enhancing educational methodologies. Our results contribute to a better understanding of AI’s role in education and suggest directions for future instructional strategies. The findings indicate that while ChatGPT can improve information retrieval efficiency, its impact on learning outcomes is nuanced and varies across different academic disciplines. This study highlights the importance of integrating AI tools like ChatGPT into educational settings in a manner that supports critical and reflective thinking skills among students. |
