Tartalmi kivonat:In the aftermath of the battle of Mohács (1526) the Turks conquered the area between the Danube and the Sava rivers, however did not establish a new sancak for a while. Szerém county (Serbian Srem/Turkish Sirem) became part of the north Serbian sancak of Semendire/Smederevo. The study examines the formation of the Ottoman adminstration in the area, which resulted in the creation of the sancak of Sirem in the mid-1540s. It provides a detailed list of its governors in the 16th century, using Ottoman sources, like various defters, sultanic orders, and chronicles. The focus of the research is on the family ties and clan affiliations of the sancakbeyis, tracing their positions before and after the sancak in question. Thus, archontological data not just provide an auxiliary tool for historians, but can help us to understand how the Ottoman provincial elit ruled Hungary, increasing its influence and welth through their family networks.
