| Tartalmi kivonat: | Following the Holocaust, the unwavering loyalty of most Central European Jews to their host states was shattered, and the mystical yearning for the Holy Land of the messianic era gave way to a practical imperative to emigrate. In this radically altered social and political landscape, virtually all Jewish press outlets in Budapest embraced Zionist discourse when reporting on developments in Palestine. Even the official Neology of the capital city, and to some extent Orthodoxy, previously defined solely on religious grounds and explicitly antiZionist, adopted Zionist terminology and advocated for Palestine as the Jewish national homeland. This study explores the reinterpretation of the Holy Land amidst shifting contexts, drawing on sources from mainstream and movement-oriented Jewish press. |
