| Tartalmi kivonat: | A world-wide pandemic was caused by a new genetic type „Swine” influenza A, the so-called (H1N1)v 2009 virus. Consistency in respecting the rules of keeping personal hygiene proved to be insufficient. According to both national and international epidemiologic authorities, only vaccination is effective enough to prevent an influenza epidemic. This would require vaccination of 60% of the population. On the top of the list of those to be vaccinated first, one can find pregnant women who are endangered 7 to 10 times more. Pregnant and lactating women need to be informed about the importance of vaccination. Monovalent pandemic influenza vaccines are harmless at any time during pregnancy. Vaccination of pregnant women provides protection to both the mother and the newborn for the first 6 months after birth. In case of suspected or proven influenza infection of pregnant women or within two weeks after delivery, it is crucial to begin immediate and aggressive antiviral treatment and intensive monitoring, as well as treatment in an intense care unit if necessary. Considering the possible need for special treatment, pregnant and lactating women should be treated in the highest level obstetric wards having a PIC III level background. |
