Aggregation behaviour study of a symmetrically substituted cationic Zn(II)-Porphyrin applied from different solvents
The aggregation behaviour of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(N-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphyrin-Zn(II) tetrachloride (ZnTMPyP) was investigated via transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The samples were prepared by drop-casting the metalloporphyrin from solvents with different polarities. The recorded images reveal...

Tartalmi kivonat: | The aggregation behaviour of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(N-methyl-4-pyridyl)porphyrin-Zn(II) tetrachloride (ZnTMPyP) was investigated via transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The samples were prepared by drop-casting the metalloporphyrin from solvents with different polarities. The recorded images revealed a variety of structures resulted from the spontaneous association of the porphyrin molecules. The main factors responsible for the shape of the architectures were ZnTMPyP’s peripheral substituents and central metal cation, the nonpolar carbon film of the TEM grid and the polarity of the solvents employed to obtain the TEM specimens. This morphological study supplements the existing literature data with respect to the self-assembly of metallated porphyrins. |
