Description
Summary:The change of empire in the southern region in 1944 – in addition to many settlements – also seriously affected Zenta. The Yugoslav partisans, who arrived after the Red Army, took over the city, and then began to curtail the rights of the local Hungarians, as well as retaliatory measures against the minorities. The climax of this was a mass murder in Zenta, on the night of November 9, 1944, which was carried out by the Department of People’s Defense (OZNA) with the assistance of local civilians. 65 people fell victim to the massacre.
