Tartalmi kivonat: | Thanks to modern medicine and raising awareness of health care professionals healthy diet is recognized as one of the determinants for quality of life. One of the main requirements of healthy diet is the consumption of chemical free and safe food, produced according to the principles of organic farming. The aim of this paper is to describe how to produce and develop these products and to present their current market situation. In the main part of the research paper results from two researches carried out in Northern Vojvodina are presented. One of them presents a comparative economic analysis of wheat produced from organic and conventional production while the other presents the results of a survey aimed at demonstrating the competitiveness of organic food on the local food market. The purpose of the analyses is to determine the profitability of organic farming and the receptiveness of the Serbian markets towards raw materials and final products from organic production. The data needed for comparative research was provided by production on two privately owned first-class lands, while the mapping of market participants was made possible by wheat products (flour and pasta) from organic farming. Based on the results of the research, it can be stated that organic farming can be profitable in our region; however, the market for organic products is still small and underdeveloped in Serbia, and finding customers for organic products may be hindered, because these products are still not well-known in our country. As a result, there are significant opportunity costs associated with organic production in Serbia, which, of course, also reduce its profitability. |
