Tartalmi kivonat: | The World Health Organization estimates that one suicide attempt occurs approximately every three seconds, and one completed suicide every minute. Suicide is often the most common cause of death in correctional settings, because inmates often feel overwhelmed and hopeless, leading some of them to choose suicide. Suicides more commonly among prisoners than in the general population. The number of suicides in prison has increased in recent years in many countries. This means that suicide is a serious health problem, inmates are a high-risk group, and reducing suicide has become an important health goal. This article describes the prevalence of suicide for incarcerated adults in correctional settings, factors associated with suicide risk, methods for assessing suicide risk in this vulnerable population and the current prevention programs. |
