Tartalmi kivonat:The present article aims to introduce the different types of definitions of the terms constitution and fundamental law according to the standpoint of the most significant authors and works of the Hungarian public law’s state law and constitutional law history. The „historical constitution” of Hungary was replaced by the „Constitution” in 1949 and by the „Fundamental Law” in 2012. In social sciences, including legal sciences, it is a very common phenomenon that the abovementioned terms serve as a theoretical foundation for a political ideology, regardless of their professional meaning. Such an „ideology-making” approach can be witnessed in the field of the definitions of constitution. The present article introduces, since the second half of the XIXth century, how such an ideology-making approach influenced the standpoint of the given era’s authors regarding the application of the different definitions of constitution.
