Tartalmi kivonat:The famous Hungarian Byzantinologist, Mátyás Gyóni wrote in his paper in 1942: "Thus Cuman auxiliaries could not serve in Byzantine army until 1118." Despite, he wroté his very valuable paper in the midst of the Second World War and he was not able to obtain some literature some of his statements are valid until nowadays. The Byzantine sources do not tell us anything about Cumans in the Komnenian army. However, we can conclude from the data of the Western, Latin sources on the First Crusade that the first ruler of the Komnenian dynasty used Cuman troops against his enemies. In my paper I examine the sources which write about fighting Cumans in Byzantine army.
