Tartalmi kivonat: | The most widespread of metal icons are the hand size or smaller cast bronze or copper plates which were also glazed from the 18th century. A simpler and smaller version - also thousands produced - was hung on a chain or string worn around the neck or on the chest. Ordinary people wore the metal icons under their clothes while the priests (especially during services) wore it above to be well-seen. Most of these crosses are originally "baptising" crosses given to children. Everyday people however, wore it all through their lives and were also buried with the cross. The study introduces these metal crosses illustrated with pieces from the volume on the Russian-Hungarian metal icon exhibition organized in the Museum ofApplied Arts (Budapest). |
