Tartalmi kivonat:Maradék is a village of Szerémség with a population of 2000 where there are Hungarians, Serbians and Croatians living together. Basically, the village used to have a two-centre structure at the time of its settlement. Serbians settled down on the hill and built a church for themselves, and their cemetery was also nearby. Catholic Hungarians and Croatians who moved here later erected their public sacred monuments in the lower parts of the village. The transition is represented by Calvinists, as their denomination is the "youngest" in the village. Their church stands opposite that of the Catholics, but their cemetery lies directly next to the Orthodox cemetery. Today, the old boundaries can be noticed only in the names ofstreets. Use of space reflects the way how space structure existing in the minds of the inhabitants is intertwined. While visiting each other's churches, people accept the authenticity of the other religion. Thus, for most inhabitants of Maradék, the sacred segments of place are identical in spite of the fact that recently, sacred monuments have all been raised by Catholics.
