Tartalmi kivonat:The village of Szegvár is situated on the left bank of River Tisza in Csongrád County, Southern Hungary. The desert of Szeg was resettled by Count Sándor Károlyi with free Hungarians of Roman Catholic religion on the basis of a settlement decree received from Emperor and King Károly 1П. The population of Szegvár is religiously and ethnically homogenous. 94% of the inhabitants are Catholic. In the village and in the confines, there are relatively numerous still existing sacred monuments. The oldest one originates from the middle of the 18th century. The locals greatly respect the crucifixes inside and outside the village. They are taken care of by either the raisers' family or the inhabitants from the neighbourhood. When passing by the crucifixes, women and men alike cross themselves and say a prayer or a petitionary prayer.
