Summary: | On the basis of the Hungarian prayer texts in Moldava and Gyimes (today Romania) the author defines the use of the words saint and sacred in different relations. Saint is used for God, the Holy Trinity, Virgin Mary, Jesus, the saints and their names, the time and space in connection with them. Sacred are the sancties, the ceremonies and the Church. The most typical words used for saint/sacred in the prayers are: saint, sacred, blessed, nice, virgin, praised, sweet, shiny and fine. The origin of these words probably roots to a medieval language use. |
