Tartalmi kivonat: | The War of Independence against the Habsburgs broke out on 15th March 1848 in Pest-Buda, the capital of Hungary. Since the end of the nineteenth century 15th March is the Hungarians' greatest national holiday expressing the unity of the nation and the values of bourgeoisie civilization. The present study analyzes the formation of the holiday. In 1849, the fight against Austria was still going strong. Contemporary Hungarians symbolically in due remembrance of 15th March, and they rose it onto a sacred level. They considered it, to be symbolic manifestation of freedom, equality and fraternity. |
