Tartalmi kivonat:The Bootmakers' Guild of Szentes celebrated the one-hundredth anniversary of its existence on 6th January 1844 and the day after. The guild-records also report on the preparations and the procedure in detail. The source I analyzed is suitable for us not only to show the series of events, but to gain knowledge about the remembrance strategies used by a guild community existing in the middle of the nineteenth century. The event recalled in a ritualized form discloses the community's attitude to the past. In our case, the remembrance is connected to an event in the past which is outstanding from the point of view of the guild, namely the establishment, the creation of the organization. My study could serve as an example of how to interpret a historical source, in our case, a description of a custom dating back to the middle of the nineteenth century, using theoretical approaches fashionable today and mostly applicable to modern rituals, applying their system of views consistently or reconsidering them.
