Tartalmi kivonat: | Radamos is a village of 356 Roman Catholic Hungarian inhabitants in the frontier zone of today's Slovenia adjacent to Hungary. In a forest in the fields of the settlement, one still can see the remains of the oak above which, on 15th June, 1947, Virgin Mary appeared to an old man herding cattle. The news spread immediately and in the same summer the tree was visited regularly by a large number of people from the surrounding Hungarian and Vend villages, and Virgin Mary revealed herself to several visitors - mainly for children. The primary goal of the study is not only to present the events of 1947 but also to analyse the process how the visions live on in the collective and individual memory and what kind of manifestations they have today. We divided our informants into three groups according to their experiences: 1. People who personally saw Mary to reveal herself. 2. Those who, while visiting the Mary-tree, witnessed as others had visions or other miraculous experiences. 3. Those who did not have visions, but had miraculous experiences (e.g. recovery from an illness) connected to the site. The study examines the place, time and content of the vision or the experience, its spiritual motivations, with what intentions the informant or the person in the story told by the informant went to the tree: out of religious belief waiting for Mary to reveal herself, or an unbeliever to destroy the tree. We also mention how the cult was judged by the secular and ecclesiastical authorities. |
