Tartalmi kivonat:Ordeals of the World War I have the impact felt not only at the frontline but in the hinterland, too. Naturally, the Catholic Church could not withdraw from the effects of the war, either, since hundred thousands of its devotees fought, got injured and died at the frontline and suffered from mourning, fear and hardship in the hinterland. In the hard situation religion was the only consolation for many people, especially in the first period of the war, and to this challenge the Church tried to answer in itsown way. One way of this was the nurturing of some especially actual cults and orisons by the Church leaders, the increase of its significance can be well traced in the prelate regulations created in the era. For example, the feast of the Grande Dame of the Hungarians, which became more and more emphasized, connected to the hope of victory, the increase of the significance of the holy mass on the Day of the Dead connected to the heroic dead, while the offering of the country to the Holy Heart of Jesus connected to the protection in trouble, as well as the more solemn holding of the May orisons. Among the new orisons of the World War years the prayers for the well-being of the young king, 172Charles IV and his family appeared from 1916, and these were replaced by prayers for Franz Joseph.
