Tartalmi kivonat: | The present study analyses the tourist and trading functions of three railways of local interest in the North-Western Transdanubian area, the Fertő-area, the So-pron–Pozsony and the Sopron–Kőszeg HÉV until 1920. The history of the three trains of horses have only been available from a rather technical historical aspect up to now. My goal is to locate the three railways into the landscape that embrac-es them and to present their social benefit beside their economic functions one after the other. In the area fair-grounds were densely situated, the attendance of which was not only largely promoted by the implementation of the railway main lines, but the railway of local interest as well, that appeared at the end of the 19th century. My examination has proved that all the three lines played a major role in the mobilisation of the population from their opening to 1920. Going to schools or fairs or even travelling to a holiday destination on the railway formed the travel habits at the same time. People arrived to the destinations from longer and longer distances because time and place shrank. Besides, railway also had a considerable space regulating effect. |
