Tartalmi kivonat:Saint Bridget was one of the most important mystical saints in the 14th century. At the same time, she is also a patron saint of Europe. She often had visions of her meeting the risen Christ and God, and of afterlife in general. The instructions she had heard in her visions served as a means of criticism of her age, as well as a guidance for both civil and religious leaders to find the right way to salvation. She is also remembered by the so-called Bridget-prayer. According to the traditions, if someone recited this prayer, they would be saved from afterlife damnation. In my essay, I will try to analyze how these traditions started, their relations with archaic prayers and their role nowadays in a Moldavian Hungarian society.
