| Tartalmi kivonat: | From 1st October, 1938 the Border Surveillance got under the control of the Ministry of Defense, where it was reorganized as border guard forces and completed border defense tasks as well as border surveillance in battalions and brigades. The other part of border guards carried out border service. The prowling company integrated the border guard patrols serving on the boundaries, and thus it was capable of the surveillance of the external border. The prowling company consisted of company command (8 persons) and patrols. The staff of patrols contained 6 to 17 persons and switched between 20 to 70 risen to military personnel. Most of the personnel served at the stations. The patrols completed border surveillance with constant patroling. The companies or the border guard battalions were under control; division headquarters were organized above about two companies. It usually depended on the length of the designated border section and the available forces. The stations normally worked with the leadership of a warrant officer. Stations served under the leadership of an officer were called officer stations. Between 1938 and 1941 the border guards were in constant movement due to the border changes. From 1941 the border surveillance system did not change significantly. While the areas of the patrols were fixed, there were minimal alterations in the number of patrols, but they were rather due to the accommodation facilities. In 1942 333 patrols served under 52 prowling companies, which were directed by 9 prowling division headquarters and 16 border guard battalion headquarters. On the Eastern border in the Carpathians there were patrols ordered there as military stock. During the II. World War the border guard forces served in extremely difficult circumstances; the border surveillance came to an end in the original term, with only certain elements functioning as particular relations were getting stable. |
