Tartalmi kivonat:The foundation of the House of Culture in Békés, was the beginning of the movement of the culture houses, at 1949. This movement was a part of the cultural revolution, which was derived from Lenin and Lunacharsky, and which was brought into Hungary by József Révai. The culture houses’ status was regulated by the decree of the Hungarian Government, Nr. 136/1951, which distinguished council maintained and factory maintained culture houses. After this decree the institutional network built up, and in Pécs was founded about 25-30 culture houses until the end of Rákosi ages. The culture houses in the city were more prosperous, due to the higher educated local inhabitants. Lectures, study groups, choirs, dance groups and orchestras showed the result of the cultural work. On the other side, at suburbs, the culture houses suffered from disinterest, only that groups functionated well, which had an old tradition. The cultural policy wanted the culture houses to become the local infrastructure of the indoctrination, but the most of the guests wanted only to have a fun.
