Tartalmi kivonat: | The ball buttons were an important part of the attire during the 10th and 11th centuries of the Kárpát-Basin which were represented in every social level and it was originated from the East presumably. The literature didn't pay much attention to these little objects, since the dress fittings and mounds made of precious metals have taken the fore in the previous reseraches. In the first part of my research, I will present the buttons excavated and documented by new methods from the 10th–11th cemeteries of Hajdú–Bihar county and the Rétköz (Hajdúszoboszló–Árkoshalom, Püspökladány– Eperjesvölgy and Sárrétudvari–Hízóföld in Hajdú-Bihar county, and Ibrány– Esbó-halom from the area of the Rétköz). I present the ornameting methods of the ball buttons in a separate chapter, and I divided them by the variance of forms. During my research, I've succeeded to discover one method in the examined areas which is typical solely in the 11th century. Above all, I've investigated the correlation between the occurence of the examined objects' different types and the gender, age of the excavated skeletons. Regarding the analised areas most of the buttons were found in female graves, but some of them can be found in the male graves in the 10th century as well. In the 11th century only children and female graves have there remains of these objects. In the other part of my work, I present the role of the ball buttons in the attire. In this case I used not only the cemeteries of Hajdú–Bihar county and the Rétköz but the well-documented gravings from the different areas of KárpátBasin too, where the ball-buttons were found. It can be established as a conclusion that the clothing by closing with more buttons was existed till the end of the 10th century, but in the 11th century only one, possibly two buttons were used for this function. Overall, these facts are signs of the slow disapperance of the eastern type clothing from Hungary in the 11th century. |
