Tartalmi kivonat:The aim of this study is to introduce what kind of crosslinguistic tendencies take role in the naming of diseases, which factors can motivate it, what morphological features are typical for the names of diseases and how all these features appear in the Hungarian language. The contacts of the names with other lexical areas are also mentioned. These features are the following: the naming is based on a metaphor or a metonymy; the name focuses on the cause or the symptom; the disease is expressed with a stem, derived or compound word. In the study 68 names of diseases are examined alltogether. In the corpus the names of general diseases, many kinds of skin diseases, those which caused great epidemics were included. According to the results there are more metonymy based transfers, than metaphorical. There are a good number of names focusing on the symptoms. Morphologically, compounding is the most common feature. As a result of the lexicological analysis, it will be demonstrated also, what lexical groups are related to the names of diseases (e.g.: the expressions of cursing, swearing).
