Tartalmi kivonat:The public education system is a very important achievement of the modern welfare states. The aim of this paper is to introduce the main characteristics of public education systems in the USA and Hungary and compare them from the perspective of Esping-Andersen’s decommodification and the dichotomy of centralization vs. decentralization. Although these states are very different, their challenges and reform needs are mostly common. We consider that, they are two main reasons, which can cause crisis in public services and generate reform steps. This paper examines the reform actions of these states from based on their historical and legal background.
