Tartalmi kivonat:Beside the MAV and other railway companies, the commuter railway companies played significant role in the forming of the Hungarian railway network. The construction of these commuter railways was legally ensured by the Article XXXI/1880 and the Article IV/1888. The construction rate can be characterized by the fact that the 57% of the railway network in 1918 was constructed by local railway companies. The existing laws set simpler technical conditions, which decreased the construction costs. The commuter railway companies were completely state-owned after 1945, except the Local Railways of Fertővidék. A lot of former rail lines were closed. A large part of the current branch lines is composed by the former commuter railway companies. Establishing a decision which will determine the future of the branch lines is a necessary and actual exercise. The established decision is helped by the creation of the conceptual model.
