| Tartalmi kivonat: | The aim of the present study is to examine those regional inequalities that can be observed in the students’ performance in school and in their family background. In course of the research the outcomes of standard reading and mathematics tests of the National Competency Assessment were examined on a regional basis. Since local enterprises mean employment and as such they can determine existential circumstances, their regional proportions are discussed in the study as a factor that heavily influences life opportunities. In addition, this paper intends to justify the assumption that the competences of students are connected to the economic conditions and employment possibilities of the region they live in. |
