The legal systems of all three states began to move from customary to codified law in connection with European colonialism and the emergence and work of Christian missionaries. In case of matrimonial law, however, each state settles it primarily not by codified law, but by common law. In this study, the the legal systems and the substantive law of the three states are examined, with special regard to the customary religious law of each legal system. For this purpose, the text of the substantive law of the three States are examined and analyzed in English translation
