Glucose, interacting with phytohormones, plays a crucial role in the life cycle of plants, not only as an energy source but also as signaling molecule. Production, transport, distribution, and utilization of glucose from source to sink tissues are one of the fundamental processes of plant growth and development under optimal and stressful environments. Salt stress can induce disruption of osmotic, ionic, and redox homeostasis of plant cells and can also induce significant changes in sugar metabolism. In the present chapter the current state of the physiological and molecular aspects of salt stress–induced modulation in glucose metabolism has been highlighted in different plant species and organs. Additionally, the regulation of glucose levels by phytohormones under salt stress is also summarized.
