I sought to put down as clearly as I could how it appears in the lives of those who have chosen to follow it even today. The thesis begins with a chapter dealing with impressions the continent and its native inhabitants had made on early explorers and settlers. It also contains some references concerning white communities' efforts to civilize Aborigines. The second chapter highlights a need to change one's attitude towards the Aborigines' world creation theory and its sources. The fourth chapter explains how landscape is integrated within myth and reality. Chapter five presents the main features of Aboriginal totemism concerning both theory and practice. Chapter six examines a number of supernatural abilities possessed by particular members of a tribe and how they apply them for different aims. The seventh chapter provides the reader with some information of Aboriginal tales and their function within the tribal community.
