In the sixteenth century there were several movements all over Europe, but the establishment of the Anglican Church was a special one among them. In my thesis I would like to prove why this church is a special one concerning its establishment and early history: the head of the new church became the king of England and England became a Protestant country in spite of the fact that neither Henry VIII nor most of the citizens were Protestants. Despite this controversial situation the Anglican Church survived. My aim was to examine which circumstances made this church strong enough to be able to survive. I found that two main factors had had decisive impact on it: one was the economic background and the other was the English people's attitude toward Papacy and the Continent.
