| Tartalmi kivonat: | Judicial independence is essential to the rule of law. States are obliged to guarantee the independence of the judiciary. Independence of the judiciary of Kosovo is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, and other laws of the country. It is critical to ensure that judges are free to perform their duties free of influence or control by members of the government, or other actors. This paper addresses issues and challenges related to building the independence of the judiciary of the Republic of Kosovo. Specifically, it looks to the recruitment, training, and salaries of judges. The study demonstrates that the independence of the judiciary in practice remains a matter of concern. More efforts must be invested to ensure independence and effectively shield the judicial system from undue pressure and interference to strengthen the rule of law. |
