This study examines the history of the infantry regiment hired and led by Johann von Pernstein during the Long Turkish War (1591/93–1606). Although Pernstein’s mercenaries served and fought in the Kingdom of Hungary in 1597 for just a few months. They took part in the unsuccessful siege of Győr (between 9 September and 3 October) and then in the battles in Vác-Verőce (between 2 November and 9 November). Because their Obrist Pernstein was killed on September 30, the regiment left without a leader, they were disbanded at the end of the expedtition. Its members continued to serve in other new corpses. | |
