In fact, Topicalization is likely to be substitution into the specifier of an iterable TopP - just as Focus Movement is substitution into the specifier of an iterable FP. The output of multiple Focus Movement is not transparent because Focus Movement into Spec,FP goes together with V-movement into F. In the case of multiple Focus Movement, the V is cyclically raised into the highest F position, as a result of which only one focus operator precedes the verb: the rest of them follow it. It will be shown that postverbal foci occupy scope positions, hence they cannot be foci in situ, to be preposed in LF. | |
